The Birth of Rotary Club of Dagupan East

The Rotary Club of Dagupan East was conceived and organized during the term of then District Governor Benjamin “Ben” M. Campomanes, through the pioneering efforts of the District Governor’s Special Representative Augusto “Evi” Evidente, assisted by then Pres. Edmundo “Ed” Exconde, then Secretary Nicanor “Nicky” Molano and Past Presidents Salvador “Badong” Zulueta and Victorio “Dar” Daroya, all from the sponsoring club of the Rotary Club of Dagupan. The eastern portion of Dagupan City and their contiguous town of Calasiao, Mangaldan, San Fabian and Sta. Barbara were designated as the territorial jurisdiction of the club.

Sometime in January 1972, several businessmen and professionals, met at the Vineyard Restaurant of the Hotel Cadena De Amor in Calasiao to lay the groundworks for the new organization. Soon after in the same place, the group held its election of officers with Ricardo “Ito” Villamil coming out as Charter President.

Admitted to the Rotary International on May 26, 1972, the club’s charter was presented formally by Gov. Ben Campomanes on June 3, 1972 at the Hotel Cadena De Amor. The club’s official bulletin was named “THE SUNRISE” after the daily national phenomenon of the sun rising from the east.
